Default NUGD--Scratched a major itch

Well, here she is:

2014 Gibson Flying V History in aged cherry. They were too expensive back when they came out, but I picked this up for well below 50% street value when new and, I swear, it's like it never came out of the case. Absolutely no fret wear, buckle rash, or signs of any human activity since it left the factory.

I sold my 1977 Ibanez Rocket Roll about ten years ago--I know, I'm an idiot--and have been jonesing for another V since then. Can't believe how comfortable this thing is. I can play it head-high or low and it feels the same. The 57/57+ combo is great. I feel like Michael Schenker again.

That's not an itch, that's a whole body rash.

Sweet!!! I'd love to have a Gibson Flying V. Are you going to play mostly standing up or do you find it comfortable playing sitting down?

I rarely play sitting, so no real concerns about ergonomics. At the shop where I bought it I did the standard "lower-wing tuck" under my right leg to stabilize it. It's not that awkward.

The V comes with a cool factor of 10 .

Really surprised by the range of tones you can get out of these, too. The full-on neck tone is FAT and musical, and bumping the neck down to maybe 7-8 when on both p/u's shifts phase like on a Les Paul. The bridge is rip-roaring RAWK. And I like adjusting the tone more on the V than on the LP, for some reason. I *might* install coil spits on the 57/57+, but we'll see. Still getting used to the switch being so far away from my picking hand.

So far I am LOVING this guitar.

Nice! I've always wanted a gloss V in Cherry. I saw Schenker in 1978. You ought to look into Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash, who sold Schenker a couple of his Vs. Andy has used Vs since '69. He gets the widest range of sounds out of his Vs of anyone I've heard.

I liked his sounds so much that I picked up a used V Factor faded just for fun. I need to grab a pair of '57s for it.

Enjoy the V!!!

Bob

Jealous that you saw Schenker at the height of his powers, and I will definitely check out Andy Powell, Bob. Pretty V! What are the pickups?
