Paul, that's a close-up of the little flowers on a Port Wine Magnolia tree growing near my front door.
There is a Blackbird nesting in there at the moment.

Hi, I've been a photographic judge for clubs and associations since '89, after gaining my Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society, but have had to retire this year due to my health issues.

Your fine images made me "click" (sic) back into judge mode.

I loved judging, because it gave me the opportunity to see and enjoy so many images but also to entertain and encourage others.

I've seem many bloom images, and they are always a challenge to judge and mark in a competition or exhibition.

Most competitions are marked out of 20 or more simply given a "merit" or not. Your images would rate highly in many of the clubs that I visit.

If interested ......... I'd be positive about your sense of composition and design, exposure accuracy, colour balance, choice of aperture (depth of field) etc.

Third image, I'd comment on the top right highlight which competes a little with the centre of interest (which is a glory!)

Fifth Image, I'd comment on the out of focus leaf 2/3rds down on right.
Strangely the human eye/brain can accept out of focus behind the centre of interest but is discomforted by it in the foreground. Probably something to do with our hunting instincts.

If these were competing with each other, I'd give the rose top marks!

Thanks for sharing the delightful images, and hope you don't mind my getting "judgy"

Thank you for the comments - especially those from a judging point SM, much appreciated.

I just took a walk around the garden yesterday and took those pictures.
All 9 shots are just straight off the camera.
No effects or colour modification.
No cropping.

Me .. I like picture 6 for the detail and the colour of that flower against the background.

Picture 1 was taken in 'Super Macro' mode and I'd prefer a sharper focus but a gentle breeze kept moving the subject.
