Default Matte guitar owners, a question

how much does it bother you that your guitar is not glossed
I just picked up a wonderful Martin custom d rosewood that sounds
fantastic, and I picked it up for a great price
but really, I wish it was gloss , it would be so much prettier if it were.
oh well, just have to save for a while for the D28
Dave

You could see if it could be buffed to shine.

Play it frequently, and rub it down briskly with a cloth every time, and it'll start to shine within a year -

Nope, not at all. I actually like the satin finish quite a bit.

It cannot be buffed properly to a shine since the underlying wood was not prepared for a gloss finish.

I greatly prefer the silky feel of satin/matte over the sticky feel of gloss, but I like the appearance of gloss more on some woods.

I like satin mahogany and gloss rosewood.

I like either on cedar. Obviously gloss on spruce.

Doesn't bother me but it's my back porch, campfire laminated beater.

But if it were gloss it would have cost more, and so much for that great price.

You can't have it both ways.

This is the equivalent of someone posting, "I just picked up a wonderful Martin custom d rosewood that sounds fantastic, and it has a great gloss finish.
but really, I wish it was cheaper , it would be so much nicer if it were."

I own both kinds. Love them both for what they are. You've got a very nice guitar there. Enjoy it. You can add a gloss model to your collection later.

Satin finished are great and beautiful in their own way. Besides, they stay in one place better. <smile>

It doesn't bother me in any way, shape or form. It is a complete non issue.

Big +1. I LOVE the feel of a satin finish, especially behind the neck.

Another Big +1! Visually, a satin finish on a beautiful Mahogany might be my favorite finish.

I have a friend with a dull finish Martin guitar. I does not look stage presentable at all with stains all over.
Ah well look at Trigger, its a well respected guitar for Willy.

I had a satin finish guitar.
It started to go shiny on the front upper bout where my strumming arm brushed against it.
Looked cheap and nasty.
If satin stayed satin I'd be OK but until it does, give me gloss any day.
