Fine, I'll see your Billy Gibbons (.008 from what I have read) and raise you an Eric Johnson (.010s for the last several decades). Then someone else can trump me with Joe Bonamassa (.011), then he can be one-upped with SRV (usually in the .012 range, despite lots of folklore out there).

The notion that anything over .008 is "overkill" is off base. The guy should play what feels good to him. And, by the way, bending won't "cause" arthritis, although if it does develop then of course going to lighter gauges will aggravate it less.


Dude, Strats come with 9s stock. Why, do you suppose, they do that?

I posted because there is a lot of macho nonsense about being "man enough to play 15s!".
