Here's a nice one I saw recently in a transcription of a Herbie Hancock solo on Wayne Shorter's Nefertiti:

-6- 9
-6- 13
-5- 3
-4- b7
-4- 4
-4- R

Ab13sus4, but with the M3 included. Arpeggiate it a few times to get the full flavour. Rather limited use. (Resolves quite well to G69, but mainly because the top 4 notes resemble a D7alt chord; ie D7alt - or Ab13#11 -does the job better.)

I had to chime in here. Maj7s all the way for me.

Emaj7
Cmaj7
Amaj7

Just lovely.

I like to pair that as an opening chord into a key change.

Amaj7..Cmaj

or

Amaj7..Gmaj

Fantastic for composing work with tension and relaxation at the same time. Great for those campfire songs in Sedona

There are a lot of them...I guess, at this very moment I'll go with A7b9 X05320.

I've got to admit that my first reaction to this thread was, "I don't get it". A chord can be pretty in context but on their own most small interval jazz chords sound little better than breaking glass to me. However I tried out JonPR's 4X4302 with some simple claw hammer type picking. Like this,

Code:
E╓───────────────2─┬─────────────────┐
B╟───────0─────────┼───────0─────────┤
G╟───3───────3─────┼───3───────3─────┤
D╟─────4───────4───┼─────4───────4───┤
A╟─────────────────┼─────────────────┤
E╙─4───────4───────┴─4───────4───────┘

. .1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + . 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

That does sound pretty.

Please see the thread again as to who posted that chord! I even put a message saying remember where you got it!

Abject apologies.

My mistake was from seeing your quote. It is pretty and it came from you.
Sorry.

"Am9" is just fine. The figure "9" implies inclusion of the 7th, so the "7" is redundant.

Not sure exactly what this is (E Major 9th maybe?) but I've always been a fan of 024140 or variations thereof like 076870.

A couple of D chords l like. Dsuss4 and Dm7. And a plain A7 also sounds great.

Chord progression: I have always found Dave Matthews "What Will Become of Me" to be particularly haunting/beautiful. It's basically just EM7, A, D/F#, G but he uses a few different non-traditional voicings/substitutions for each chord at different times that really give the progression a lot of texture.

Single Chord: I don't know the name of it; it's some variation of E. I learned it from Tommy Emmanuel.

From Low to high E it's

0 2 4 1 0 0
