I thinks its a lovely tuning, I don't use it enough!
My fav song in that tuning would be Fanny Power by Steve Baughman (though terrible name for the tune, careful when googling!)

here is a clip of someone playing it!

the tabs for this are part of the Mel Bay 'The Barney Pilgrim' book.

Steve's arrangement of Fanny Power gets my vote as the most beautiful fingerstyle arrangement I know of, regardless of the tuning.

He's not responsible for the name, of course - it's an O'Carolan tune, written for a patron. Fortunately for Ms Power, google wasn't around in the 17th century.

Default G sus 4 tuning - CGDGCD

I too was using DADGAD on classical nylon string, but have lately changed to CGDGCD (Orkney). I also play 6-string electric bass so I was really missing the lower notes :-) that this tuning provides.

I was wondering if anyone plays in CGDGAD which is just one note different but would allow for easier switching back and forth from DADGAD (only 2 lowest strings need to change by 1 tone)...

Sure, I use "C-GAD" a bit. Here's one of my arrangements using it:

El McMeen uses this tuning pretty much exclusively, and has a lot of nice arrangements in it. Laurence Juber's Mosaic uses it, as I recall. Chris Proctor has some arrangements that use that tuning. Many others, I'm sure.

Like with all tunings, you just plug in the notes. Some tunings lend to more open notes and strings that ring through. Some tunings lend themselves more readily to key changes. If you spend much time in a particular tuning you will want to memorize chord positions and scale patterns.

I think Eric Roche used that tuning for some tunes, and Thomas Leeb.
