1 Martin 12 string, D12-20. If I want a 6 string, take off 6 strings - two Martin's in one guitar.

I am a former Martin owner. Loved the sound but was disappointed in the construction. A 3 year old guitar should not have high action with barely any saddle left. It was probably already a candidate for a neck reset. My mistake was buying it sight unseen.

I only have one Martin, a Terz size 5 guitar for high string playing only. Never have owned a dread. I just never understood their sound. Played several the other day at Gruhn and none blew me away. Their decay is way too quick and clunky for my personal taste. The Terz I own is an all mahogany custom made for Gruhn. Perfect for Nashville high string playing with open Waverly tuners. The first time I played one was when I was at Peter Framton's studio last year, I was hooked. He has a Terz but with a sitka top and hog back and sides. Sounded so good high strung that I was on the hunt after that. These guitars are bought many times for travel guitars but they sound awful tuned in standard, with regular strings. When I played Framton's it was like the guitar was built to be played like this and this alone. I love it!

I was Martin-less until earlier this month, when I became the proud owner of a Martin D-28 Marquis. Fabulous guitar.

I've never owned a Martin guitar and never lusted after one.
Every model that I ever tried has disagreed with my left hand. Same goes for Gibson. There's something about the Martin & Gibson guitar necks that doesn't fit my hand. Fortunately, there is a host of other great guitar makers out there.

5 Martins, 4 Bourgeois, 1 Collings, 2 Republic resonators, 1 Weber mandolin, 1 Collings mandola, 1 Deering banjo--and 1 Fender acoustic that lives in Poland, where I am now. When I could only afford one guitar--which was the case for most of my life--it was a Martin D-35.

It's interesting - of the people who've responded to this poll, when you add all the categories together 70% of us report owning one or more Martins. That doesn't include those who used to own one or more but no longer do.
Somehow, I doubt that the percentage of Martin guitar owners in the general guitar-playing population is the same. We're definitely a self-selected group here. It's also been made clear from other polls that we skew on the older side, as well, which would explain why so many of us could afford to own Martins. whm |

Martin
Over the years, I have owned 4 Martins, though I don't have one now. Decent guitars, all but the M35, which was a factory second.

I'm up to three Martins. They are nice guitars but I believe that I was imprinted with the desire to own one back in the 60's. As far as I knew, they were at the top of the heap (and almost unattainable) Appealing to me in appearance with their plain, American simplicity and reputation for quality and a trademark tone. The square headstock, the logo, it just always appealed to me. I enjoy my oldest guitar, a 12 fret, Dread Collings and my newest acquisition, Barely a month old, Cotten, 28 style, 12 fret, 000 just as much but I need to know I own America's guitar. Even my non- Martins are very Martin inspired.
