Smile Within a fortnight

Slowly but surely my Poljakoff got in shape. In two weeks time I will hold her in my arms. I am thrilled! Jakob is building a beauty with the cedar top meanwhile in shellac. Frets still have to be polished but things are going quickly now. The day after tomorrow strings will bring the wood into vibration - for the first time!

Default In full glory

Coming Saturday I will meet the maker, Jakob Poljakoff in Berlin, and pick up my first custom built guitar. Yesterday Jakob sent me some pictures of his masterpiece. Wow!..., and what will she sound like? It was hard to fall asleep last night.

Absolutely gorgeous ... just love the heal contour, and, well, everything!

Just for you David: a song for Jenny played by Cor Mutsers on his Poljakoff.

Thank you all for the compliments!
Jakob Poljakoff built me a C-1 (his model 1 with a cedar top) which turned out to be what I had hoped for: guitar pickers heaven! His craftsmanship was what he is meanwhile known for: immaculate, but - like always with a custom built - what would she exactly sound like when I would hold her in my hands? Some three weeks ago the day had come! After waiting for sixteen months I travelled from The Hague (NL) to Berlin and played a first chord to let my C-1 ring in Jakob's workshop. The fatigue of the 700 kilometre drive was gone instantly. I honestly was overwhelmed! And now after many hours of playing my Poljakoff I am even more impressed and convinced of the quality of the sound: warm round bass tones and a precious clear high register. Overall the sound is what I would call "woody" and that was precisely what I had in mind when I surrendered to Jakob. Moreover, there is a perfect balance in which every string rings out equally and a very, very nice sustain. The latter is probably enhanced by the elevate, floating neck which (just) does not touch the top of the guitar. Striking is also the intonation. As a singer-songwriter who often capos the guitar I simply don't have to struggle with sharp lows. I don't know how Jakob did that but it is a real treat, and so is the whole guitar. Small but beautiful: a joy to play and a gem to look at. The lavish purfling is a bit of extravagance, but since this is my first and last custom built guitar I wished her to stand out in the herd.

I like the headplate/headstock.

Are the back and sides open pore? Satin finish?
