Probably: Right here, selling music gear, hiking at 13,000 feet, making music, chilling with my kids when they deign to return to Durango once in a while.
I would prefer: Move to some foreign capital, spend my waning days rescuing children from the international sex trade. 5, 10, and 15 years ago: My guess would have been pretty accurate. Before then: I was pursuing a career in professional philosophy. Never would have guessed I'd be in the music biz as anything other than a performer.

I plan on retiring in October of 2019. The wife and i plan on moving to Jarrell Texas just north of Austin. Both my kids (and grandkids) live in the vicinity. 5 years from now I hope to be sipping on a margarita in our hot tub.

I’m a young 61 (at least I feel that way) and the plan is for me to retire from my career job in 37 months. Plenty of hobbies, lots of interests. We’re fortunate enough to have a beach house so I know I’ll be spending more time there. No plan to move from the homestead.
Looking back, I can honestly say that I never really planned any of it. I’ve worked hard, been lucky in love, have great family, kids and friends and things have worked out pretty well. Because of a very personal event 10 or 12 years ago I learned to cherish everyday, take nothing for granted, live well, love lots, be kind, display empathy and be grateful. Everyday is a work in progress. |

I'm 67. I've been retired for six years and haven't looked back. While I've had to sell my motorcycle, I'm still racing, still going on cruises with my wife, still playing guitar, still going to hockey games, still going to the beach. I'm happy where I am (close to kids and grandkids) and I'm not going anywhere.

Such an interesting question and thoughtful replies. Really wonderful to be on AGF.
I'll be in 67 in 5 years. I'm retired now. My most important wishes are to continue to be reasonably healthy and to watch my kids grow into fulfilled, worldly, good people. I anticipate that I'll be a much better guitar player in 5 years. I've really been digging in the last couple of years and LOVE to play. My thanks to my teacher Mark Hanson - he has helped me immensely. I probably will have taken another extensive RV trip around the country to National Parks. I did a 6 month, 17,000 mile trip when I stopped working a couple of years ago and it was one of the most spiritual journeys of my life. I'd also like to visit other parts of the world; England might be next on my list of places. I really want to see Liverpool :-). I didn't travel out of the USA much until a few years ago. It was like taking blinders off and realizing that I don't live in the center of the world. Just to wake up, be happy and live in the moment. Ah yes, one more thing. If Kate Upton is not married in 5 years, I'd like her to move in with me. Last edited by Steve-arino; 03-17-2018 at 09:13 PM. |

That’s gotta be one of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time, had coffee pouring out of my nostrils. With that sense of humour my friend, I bet you’ll live to a hundred

I have no idea. I'm another one of those whose life doesn't offer a lot of ability to plan. Lord willing, I'll still be working but maybe able to reward my lovely wife with a trip to England and Scotland. Lord willing, I'll still be playing but I'll be lugging even smaller amplifiers!
