Sometimes things just don't want to work
I'm moving on to the next tune in my TrueFire lesson and at one point you have to hammer the pinky on the 3rd fret, 2nd string (previous chord shape is a C) and play the bass G note on the low E. And I miss it. Tried it again... Missed it. And again and again. Finally I had to go so slow it wasn't funny. Finally got it at the sloowwww tempo. I was just doing the same technique with different notes in the previous song in my practice session. Sometimes things just don't work, lol.

Yeah, Barry, I think we've all been there. Sometimes it helps me to really slow a part down and master it before moving on. I feel your pain...

IME if you focus on the music, the mechanics will follow. Try lighting the candle at the other end...

Yes, patience does pay off in the end. Stick with it or it or you will never own it, never quit! This is how you progress and get more proficient on the instrument.

Yes, i need to come at it from both directions to nail it. Sometimes i get carried away with the mechanical technique instead of feeling it, and swapping it out, leading with the feeling it instead of working it leads me to a better approach. When I started playnig guitar I just felt my way through everything -- which sounded cool to start, but the lack of skill slowed me down. After learning better technique and theory, I sort of got obsessed with technical trickery and later noticed my music no longer sounded natural or fluid, too forced. Going back to that winging it by ear, using the mechanical technique as an aide has given me recently one of those sudden bursts of progress ... and it can go the other way, lulls.
