Talking Loef Black Limba/ Swiss Spruce Ash OO

Loeb Arrived! It's a fiery lass named Nina!

Got her unpacked, straighten her strings at the saddle & tuned.
Saddle is a wee short on the hi E side.
It would move over without strings.
Not sure what that's about.
Really a great guitar to add to my collection.
Right now can't say she would replace Musser but he's a Brazilian OM.

You can't take a good photo of the tone of the top. It's a violet gray.
No photo comes close to it in person. The rays on the spruce are mesmerizing.

It's very pretty. The truth is that Olav handles varnishes very well, perhaps they are a little thick, but he achieves incredible color nuances.
Don't think that it is a matter of replacing any other guitar, it is complementary to your Musser and anothe member of your collection.

Talking I'm really melding with Nina

The guitar just fits me physically & the tone is very exceptionable for her size.
It feels so right in my arms. The hold upon my body. I have never had this close connection. She is what she is & slowly she is putting a spell over me...

Thanks, quite an expense but I've looked 3 months & her sound captured me the most.

And there you have it, in a nutshell.
To my way of thinking, the most important quality of a guitar, and often, the most unappreciated. When you truly bond with a guitar, you intimately connect with the music.

I hope that connection just grows stronger with time.

Love those bridgepins. Are they available anywhere?

Talking Very True

It was a bit scary & alien as I don't spend money lightly.

It's been all about the sound as I have never played any of the guitars I was checking into.

I was trying to filter out any bigger than an OM but it's hard sometimes & one thinks what difference does a half inch here & there make?
Well now I know.
I was never able to hold a guitar even a classical like they hold classicals. This one just fell into my lap & made itself at home. I felt I had control over the entire guitar. It was just not something in front of me it became a part of me & it's got great big sound & sustain. Just not that dark deep bass & shimmering highs I get from Musser. Still its a trade off to be able to play better.

It's a nice sound just different than the recording of it.

Too soon to judge the sound as I have only played it for a few minutes but already I could tell we are going to be happy together.

One of my favorite songs to play to judge a guitar.

Default Finish

I don't think the finish is too thick. I have seen worse. It needs some protection. I think it's about just right.

I wonder how the different bridge pins affect sound.
I have to ask him about that. Ebony vs the white...not sure what they are. I could ask to buy the black but I wonder if he would estimate the size.

Olav recommended the D'Addario light phosphor bronze EJ16.
Mine has the original strings. Not sure what kind Olav uses.

Just did a quick 1 verse tonight.

Really getting into the sound.
