I never had much success with books (in the begining)...I took lessons from a fingerstyle teacher ...then the books made more sense.

Angry @ David

Got Fredrick Noad solo 1 today,
Saw most of the exercises require an accomaniment player, yet the book title is solo guitar playing.
I am tired of buying books that become short of what there are suppose to be.

I am working through the Noad book, and it doesn't require an accompaniment player. You canplay with someone else, but it's not required.
It's actually a very good book and will almost certainly propel you forward in your quest.

If its me alone playing, do i just play the upper staff only.
And then the lower staff, or is the lower staff really for a teacher .

You play the upper staff, in the pieces with two staffs. When you get to solo pieces, then it's all you.Like Spanish study.

I recommend you read the intro and notes at the beginning of the book, they make everything clear. Don't skip, or you might miss an important piece of information, like for example what those little numbers over each note, are.

It took me 50 pages to realize I was doing something wrong.

Take it easy and go through it slowly, making sure there's no buzz or dead notes. It can be a bit tedious at first, but gets interesting pretty fast, when you've learnt your notes.

Thanks, really appreciate the assistance.
Its going to tedious for me for a while, as i can read notation, but extreemly slowly.
Exercise 1 had me laughing, first time i realised using index and middle finger on the same string was so difficult but got it down fluently an hour later.

Noad's "Solo Guitar Playing 1" was the book I used with a teacher back in the '80s... I still love that book.

I would start by playing the upper staff, with the teacher playing the lower staff.

Then at some point, he would have me play the lower staff.

Default Fingerstyle method

I am using Noad and Sagreras, though am getting the most out of Delcamp lessons online. They are free but you are expected to post videos of your progress, follow certain exercises, and offer feedback to other students. I am having a great time and making leaps in my skills.

I don't think there are any expectations in the beginning. Just being able to read the music more or less fluently and playing it clearly at an even tempo without too many mistakes is enough.

Later on, I think in Malaguena, he speaks of bpm.

Frederic Hand has a dvd with a booklet titled Seven Easy Pieces. He says these arrangements are geared more toward beginners.
