I went to a concert back in the '70's where the lineup was John Mayall, Sweathog, Mountain and Black Sabbath. I was only there because I rightly figured it may be my only chance to see John Mayall live. I left shortly after his set.

I loved the sax and had a few Bill Doggett records. I never got the Beano record. At the time Yardbirds, and Hendrix seemed a little more raw than the blues formula for me. For FM rock / Americana I liked Pappa John Creach, sax, flute, Leon Russell piano and other ear treats besides predictable Peter Green/Clapton pentatonic stuff.

John Mayall was (and is) one of those guys who I appreciate as an artist, and can hear his skill as a musician, but who just didn't light me up. So I bought a few of his albums over the years (including "Room To Move" not long after it came out), and went to one of his concerts in the early 70's. Always "liked" the music. But it seemed like there was something missing there, and I found it with other musicians and groups. Still don't know what "it" is...just feel it when I feel it.
