Well I'm still dismantling the old studio...must have been 1,000 cables all jumbled together,,, a huge mess from 23 years of use, additions, modifications, etc....I didn't realize I had so much stuff that I have to deal with now.....cabinets, music books, outdated midi rack equipment a huge wooden desk, wires wires wires......500 cd's....tons of paperwork, misc junk...it all added up over the years...I'm so glad to be starting out with a fresh new studio.....

It sounds like your spring cleaning was long overdue. Keep an eye out for things you can sell on eBay. And try not to spend the money on new gear

Yep, I'm doing just that, overdue spring cleaning. Ya I'll be selling a few items, and not buying anything more at this time. I have the setup I want now and don't need anything else. I plan on keeping it simple. I'm writing all the other gear off as lessons learned to get where I'm at now. I'm very happy with the new setup and it's working out great for me. No regrets !!

Well the downsized bedroom studio just didn't work out, I was too cramped, so I took over the old bedroom and rebuilt my studio from scratch again. I ended up selling the old and buying a lot of new stuff....I love my new studio...

here's a pic....

I know you've got limited space, but having one monitor in the corner is going to seriously mess up your EQ and balance when mixing.

Yes people often over look the extreme importance of having the monitoring symmetrically placed side to side in the room

The problem is I have no other choice at this time. On the rear wall I have 12 square feet of Auralex mounted. I'm not having any issues with sound. I think I'll be able to mix just fine. I have a mono Auratone cube for checking mixes and a pair of Realistic speakers for and additional reference check.

Well to each their own ( but be aware no professionally designed studio I have ever seen, has the listening position in a corner---- --and this for very specific physical acoustical response reasons which no kind of foam damping can address ).. ( also note if you are getting phase cancellation, you will most likely not be able to hear it ) I see that currently the door is conflicting with positioning the desk out of the corner BUT If it were me , that back wall would be where the desks is, so it can centered.......Jus sayin do what you think is best for you, it is all good .

Well the back wall as it is, is a couple of sliding closet doors. I use the closet for misc. storage, so I need to keep access to them.

If you're happy with your results, that's all that really counts. the Auralex foam won't do anything for the low end, and that speaker in the corner is going to cause all sorts of low end to bounce around unsymmetrically - play a reference track and move around the room and you'll hear the sound changing as you do.

I thought the second bedroom was for the five-year-old. Are you building an addition for him?
