Bob, just listened - sounds very nice!
Can you comment more on Valerie Turner’s book?
Thanks
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

That is very kind of you, many thanks.

I really like the book. Her website explains it pretty well. The arrangements are not as difficult as some I have seen of the same tunes, but at her tempo they are quite challenging for a novice picker like me. The production values on the book are very high, and she gives you a link to hear her playing them. She studied with Woody Mann, and as much as I like his materials most of his stuff is too advanced for me right now. She only runs through the tune once, and most of them fit on one or at most 2 pages. If you have been picking country blues for a while there may not be a whole lot here for you, but for me it is great.

Hope this helps!

Bob,
I am also a novice at Fingerstyle, using Toby W. basics and the Berle/Galbo book. Also using Blues Guitar Institute on Utube.
Will check out the Turner book.

Thank you
G

Hi Gerry,

I have also done Toby's intro to fingerpicking lessons and a little bit of Blues Guitar Institute. As mentioned above I started with Mark Hanson's books and still work out of them, there is a lot in there, especially if you want to play something other than blues in the Travis style.

I began with a teacher a couple of months ago. He has been writing out exercises every week--scales, arpeggios, pull off and hammer ons, pinches, etc. This really helped my technique. Last night he asked me to buy this book by Tommy Flint.

Looks like it has a lot of exercises that lead you into songs in a coordinated way, rather than jumping into difficult stuff with no prior training in it. Hanson does a bit of that in his books, too.

Keep pickin'!
