Greatest guitar arrangement

I thought I would provoke a bit by offering my opinion on the best guitar arrangement I have ever heard?

To me this is truly stunning:

I posted this one before. I don't know if a "Tah Greatest Arrangement" exists but if there were such a thing Dyens's arrangement of this Jobim piece would be a strong contender:

These are great,

I just think Nato Lima captured the orchestral content so well.

Did you notice the tuning?

There is so much out there and also given the variations in people's personal preferences that it makes the statement "greatest" rather pointless. Just couple of examples I really
like listening to would be:

"BlueTango" (collection of arrangements via the duo Laurindo Almeida and Charlie Byrd):

Then there is the amazing arrangement and playing by the "Kupinski Guitar Duo" of Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue"

I have listened to your selections and while these are all
Talented people the content is just not there by comparison for me.

The record was made in 1966 at RCA In new York

The engineer was drunk and the vu meters were all in the red. The recordings were manipulated to get the best result. It was recorded In one take.

What stands out even more is the music is not standard. guitar fate.

Perhaps this Is why they sold more recordings than most classical guitarists and had the all time instrumental hit before Classical Gas. It is still #3 all time.

Yamahsita's arrangement of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" should be high on this list. (note: h and s intentionally transposed in his name--the editor doesn't like those four letters in a row).

Much less known, but in my opinion very excellent, is Francois de Fossa's arrangement of the overture from Boieldieu's "Le Calife de Bagdad."

Ok

The Waltz of the flowers is played in a very different combined tuning.

Nato tuned a whole step high

His brother antenor played a half step low.

The low guitar had the 5th and 6th strings tuned an octave apart at Ab.


So rather than just look at it from the Technical perspective its conceptually amazing

Antenor Was rhyhtmically correct. Nato Was rhythmically creative and stretched time.

For me its a conceptual masterpiece.

I know people are very focused On technical brilliance,


But as Nato would say

I would rather be the first to it badly than the last to be perfect.
