I have 2 broken snarks. Dropped them and done! And...on carpet! Flimsy things.
Now I just use a Fender tuner app from my phone.

I've broken several at the head end socket joint. Just glue 'em back together, they still work fine. I buy the super tight snarks on line for about 10 bucks each. That way I keep a tuner and spare battery in every case.

My favorite clip-on tuner is the Fishman FT2. I find it to be quite accurate, and I LOVE the design (no buttons - it turns on when you flip it up!). At just $11, it's quite painless to have more than one.
Oh, speaking of Snark, my absolute favorite tuner is the Snark pedal tuner. Outstanding, and just $35.

I have a Snark, Peterson and Polytune. Broke the Snark. Love the Peterson but it seems a little fragile. Except for the "Sweetening" the Polytune is as good as the Peterson and its construction is pretty darn robust. Both pick up the E string on a bass fiddle. Both are better than the Snark IMHO and experience. Both cost more than the Snark too, so you decide.

Hi MrBirdog,
I think the Peterson Stroboclip really is a good tuner. It drives some people nuts because of the jumpy display, but I love mine. The new version is coming out and it's less expensive and addresses some of the issues of the original, including the jumpy display. So this new one should be even better. I also own the TC Electronics Polytune. It's easier to use than my Stroboclip, but after owning both for a while now, I am convinced that the Peterson does a better, more accurate job. I'm not sure why, but now that I know how to use the Peterson, it never fails to get my guitars sounding their best. The Polytune does not always do as good of a job, I'm not sure why. The Peterson has sweetened tunings -- that might be the difference. Who knows... I also have a couple of Snark TC8 units and some other tuners. The Polytune and Stroboclip get most of the use, though. I use my Polytune in the house and the Stroboclip in the studio. - Glenn

I've bought a bunch of tuners, including a few Snarks. I have a Stroboclip and a Polytune Clip.
The Stroboclip is without a doubt a very fine and accurate tuner, but I found the display too jumpy for me to be confident that I was at the exact right pitch. The Polytune Clip is (to me) the best I've found. It's the only one I'm using now. It seems to be highly accurate, and the display is easy to read and easy to use. It's unobtrusive and works on both the front and back of the headstock. |
