Default Help with chord

The chorus of Peace in the Valley there's a note or chord I can't figure out.
No sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see,, it's that "I see" I can't find. In D key I tried E7 but it doesn't sound right.

Hi Smitty...

In the original Elvis versions, at the end of the chorus, it was

There will be [D]Peace in the [E7]Val-ley [A7]for [D]Me……[G]Oh [D]yeah (for me)

Actually Elvis recorded it in key of C, but in key of D those are the chords at the end of the chorus.

The chords in the Elvis version at that point are:
Code:
|C |C7 |F |D7
sadness, no sorrow, no trouble, trouble I see
In key of D, therefore, it's definitely an E7 chord on the end (following G).

Other versions, however, might well play the E7 with a G# bass, or use G#dim7 (almost the same chord, a jazzier alternative).

Thanks a lot. I'll try that diminished chord and see if it's what I'm looking for.
