This might bring up another question, does the internal volume or actual power of the guitar effect the output of the pickup?
I have a D28 with the Trance and an OM21 with the K&K. From my experience, I'd say your 10% is right on the money.

Which of your guitars is acoustically louder?

Thanks again for taking the time to experiment and share your results!
The K&K was passive.
The Collings is strung with mediums and much louder. When it comes out to play the wife leaves the room.

Any time!

Default Trance Amulet M Output?

All, I can report (happily) that the replacement Trance system is working incredibly well. It sounds superb and the signal is very hot. In fact, I have to remove the preamp and dial the gain back next time I change strings. It's actually too hot now! It's not clear whether it was my previous installation, because I think I installed the same way, but this time it sounds dynamite. One difference is that I let each lens sit under clamp for 24-hours per lens, instead of 8-12 hours as last time. It may have made a difference.

The newest Amulets, the Phantom M and the M+ have an adjustable gain pot inside. I agree that the default Amulet-M is not as hot as some by default, but with the newer preamps, I think you can crank it up substantially. In any case, there's certainly enough output as-is to drive any amp or preamp.
