But I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks!
Hercules makes one that holds 3 guitars. That's a good one.

Here's Hercules' statement about this from their FAQ:

As a professional stand manufacturer, HERCULES goes to great lengths to provide the highest quality and the most secure stands. HERCULES had conducted numerous experiments on our SFF foam and is pleased to find that it does not react with most of the guitar finishes in the market, including Nitrocellulose. The tests included subjecting the instruments on the stand to heat, cold and normal temperatures for periods of up to six months without movement.

However, each manufacturer has their own formulation of Nitrocellulose, with differing proportions of the chemicals involved. There are literally thousands of different variations of lacquer in use today, making it impossible to test them all. Therefore, to provide your valuable guitars with the best support, we recommend you to refer to your instrument's owners manual for more information regarding the proper storage of your instrument.

I am going to be the oddball here and recommend the CooperStand.
http://www.zzounds.com/item--COOECCO...FYaTfgodK3EAvA

I chose this over the others for 3 reasons (price not being one of them):
1. It is ultimately portable, fit easily into my gig backpack.
2. It holds my guitar very securely and easily.
3. Unlike the Hercules stands, if someone bumps into it, instead of falling over, it slides. I have had my guitar bumped into many times by other band members during set up or break down, and the thing simply slides instead of falling over.

Just my opinion.

I have three with the back rest. For acoustics I'm not sure why you wouldn't want the backrest. I use one for mandolin. Backrest keeps it from swingin by the yolk. Works great. Stable

That's why it's a bad idea to put a good guitar in a stand on stage, use it's case.

I have a a Hercules rack stand and it's really good and stable but I like using these case stands better. I take a reso, an electric and an acoustic to most of my jobs these days..

This one is probably not the best one but mine is going on 3yrs.
Just bought it to give it a try and it takes up very little room, is stable and gives you a little shelf to work with for capos, tuners and picks.
I also throw my volume, splitter box, pre amp and cables in the bottom. Three side protection.... works for me any way

I picked one of these up today at GC for $23. Great buy and solid. They have another model with a locking head, but I didn't see the extra $16. I agree the Hefcules is likely best, but for my gig environments the Ultimate will be much better than the "base" type stand.

Check out the D&A Starfish + Active...it's a pretty badass stand! Definitely more stable than any config of Hercules. Hercules, like most all others, rely on the tripod concept...which is only but so stable. The Starfish relies on a modified tripod...instead of just three legs, the Starfish has FIVE!

That's actually a very nice stand albeit a bit pricey. Here's a link to the product page:

It has 5 legs, but it doesn't look like they spread out very far. The whole rig looks a little unsecure to me -

A standard stand has only three legs, but the middle one is shorter. A Hercules has 3 long legs that spread out very nicely - to my eye, it looks like Hercules would be more stable than the one in the video.

EDIT: I take that back, it looks like the legs on the Starfish thing and my pair of Herc stands spread out about the same.

I'm grateful for all of the suggestions.

Like I said, I decided to go with Hercules and ordered a couple of the 415's with bags. If I love them I'll order one or two more.

I dunno about needing a back rest.

I figured if Larry likes the 415 I'd go with that.

We agree about 90% (gotta leave some room for personal preference) on most things!
