Default 12/2 -StAug. FL - Benefit for Luthier Paul Berger w/ Peter Rowan & Todd Sheaffer

I just found out about this the other day. Mikey and I are going to be there. Here's the deal~

Shakerag Productions and Pretty Cool Music are putting on a benefit concert for beloved luthier Paul Berger. This is for help Paul with his overwhelming medical bills.

Along with Peter Rowan, we have a lineup that includes Todd Sheaffer of Railroad Earth, the Gatorbone Band, and a host of the best St Augustine musicians. Peter and Todd believe in this so much they are waiving their fees. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Peter Rowan in an intimate backyard setting.

We are asking for a $30 donation. This is a limited seating event and it's highly recommended to purchase tickets early. People who purchase tickets in advance will be guaranteed a seat.

Shakerag website

It runs from 3pm till probably around 9pm. Food and beverages will be available. No kids or pets. There will be a silent auction to benefit Paul, and some of Paul's guitars will be on display as well.

This is basically a backyard house concert, which should be really intimate and special. We are really looking forward to this one!!

More about Paul Berger~

Paul Berger worked in the Martin Guitar Factory from the early sixties to the mid seventies. He knew Mr. Martin Sr. personally and is to my knowledge the only person whom Mr. Martin gave permission and his blessing to build guitars to Martin specs just as long as Paul didn't use the Martin logo on his guitars.

Paul was not only a guitar builder for Martin but he ran the repair shop as well. The guitars that were frequently in the shop for repair were from the golden era of Martin (1930s and 40s) and as old as the turn of the century. These guitars were built differently than the assembly line guitars of today, and Paul builds his in this style. Paul also restored the valuable guitars for the Martin Museum.Paul has either repaired restored or built guitars for some of the best known names in the music industry. In fact some of music's legends. Paul hasn't boasted about this and many of his closest friends aren't aware of this impressive list. Here is an example of some of those musical greats:

Elvis Presley, Sir Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Peter Rowan, Charlie Pride, Arlo Guthrie, Porter Wagner, Gordon Lightfoot, Waylon Jennings, Ricky Nelson, Hank Williams Jr, Roy Clark, The Kingston Trio, Hank Snow, New Christie Minstrels, Stonewall Jackson, Todd Sheaffer, Montana Slim, Gamble Rogers, Bernie Leadon, Peter Paul and Mary, and Lis and Lon Williamson, to name but a few.

When Paul left Martin to pursue his own guitar career he purchased a stockpile of Brazilian Rosewood from Martin that was already cured and dates back to the turn of the century. He builds guitars of the finest quality anywhere and is still at it. Paul has provided the music world with some of it's best instruments. We hope you will join us to honor the life works of this incredible craftsman and beloved friend.
