That's it! I'm going to a metal forum to post some fingerstyle pieces... or not.

Yngve gets a bad rap because he can play, AND he's an absolute pompous a-hole.

It's a combination that makes people uncomfortable, especially here, where we're only allowed to like certain technical players and be "cool." So Tommy Emmanuel, ok, Guthrie Govan, don't you dare.

What's funny is, I was the only teenager in my day who knew who Yngwie was. All my friends were into Slash, Hammett and the like. Yngwie was, and in a lot of respects still is my favorite lead player. The clips that guy posted were of himself, NOT Yngwie. Yngwie's playing is so fluid, effortless and super clean. Sure, it's REALLY fast, but there is a lot of feel in it. I was raised on classical, so neoclassical was a natural progression.

A musical predecessor of sorts, Paganini, also got a bad rap...

I have a lot of admiration and respect for Yngwie's playing but was just wondering why it's on this site.

Back when I played electric, I was really into rock and metal (my best piece was Triumph's Rock and Roll Machine).

Back when I was a metalhead, I saw Yngwie Malmsteem open once.

Even then, I found him to be a complete and utter bore and I never once ever understood any fandom. Sure he can wiggle his fingers quickly but, IMO, there was no music coming out.

Hi, Bygocay!

Sounds like you've been in the woodshed for years!

Oh, and others,

There was a time when the AGF welcomed anyone, even if we didn't particularly like their style.

I think the AGF still does welcome everyone, but the OP's first words were "Hi dear metal body"

Probably just seeing what the reaction to shredding in an acoustic forum would be (I could be wrong).

Just seems like it the original post should have been in the Electric Guitars section. I still think of AGF as mostly acoustic.

actually, i saw him on youtube once, bc somebody wanted me to check him out. I had never heard of him before last year. I have to say, absolutely the best I've ever seen at arpeggios, especially diminished. Im sure that there are others who are just as good or better, I just haven't seen them yet. The only thing that bothered me was, he was playing an Ovation.. Please forgive me if you are an Ovation fan, but I have never liked them personally. Well that's not entirely true....they make great boat anchors...jk...jk....JUST KIDDING!!!

Al Di Meola and Yngie both play ovations, along with Mellissa Ethridge and Kathy King.

Now back to our post...I think Maelmsteem is an incredible player. I cannot listen to him, that having been said. Thats because I am an old fart and it tires me out.

I do not care for Yngwie's music. It is just not my cup of tea. id rather listen to or play the music of blind blake or chet atkins.

I think Yngwie is an amazing player, and as an electric guitarist he has influenced so many and truly has a voice of his own which is instantly recognisable. I'm personally not a big fan having seen him live and becoming bored after about 30 minutes but technically his playing is about as perfect as anyone can be. I'm just not sure he belongs on this forum but if he does then we should also be discussing Hendrix, Vai, Van Halen etc.
