Smile NGD: Martin D28

Hi all. Picked up a new D28 (2017) yesterday.

I spent a couple of hours A/B ing the D28 and D18. I love the tone of both, but have always preferred the D18 2012 for playability - the 1 3/4" nut makes a massive difference for me. The choice between the new D28 and the D18 was almost too close to call, and I would have been very happy whichever one I had left the shop with. Martin really have nailed it with these updated models! However it ended up being the D28 as it just had a little more of the tone I was looking for for the sort of fingerstyle I play, and the 1 3/4 nut of the new model just tipped it for me.
I would also like to give a massive shout out to Mansons of Exeter, especially Dave, a guy who clearly loves guitars and their history. Made the whole purchase experience very enjoyable, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Fantastic selection of high end guitars (including 5 Andy Manson guitars) available to play in a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. Made the 6 hour round trip more than worthwhile!!

Andrew

Congrtulation indeed. Tried one the other day that was sitting next to an older version. It was stark difference with a preference toward the new version. Very vibrant and punchy tone

Certainly a guitar by which all other guitars are compared to. It'll be interesting to see how many of your local buddies will want to A/B it against their guitar. Congrats on giving an icon a home.

I know you will enjoy. Over time, as it opens up, there will be nice tone changes that you'll notice in a subtle way. I've had mine 44 years. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I love my (2008) D-28, this guitar looks absolutely beautiful.

Enjoy (as if you wouldn't).

Can't really go wrong . . .

I've wanted a D28 for a long time, but always felt the 1 11/16 nut was just too narrow for me. I knew the D18 neck and nut felt good, so when they announced the updated D28 I couldn't wait to get the chance to try one out.

I am so glad I did!!!

Congrats! You couldn't have gone with either guitar. Bonus that you were able to A/B them. Enjoy.

Sounds like we need to open up our own club!

D-28 Posse, unite!!!!!!

Congrats. Just got mine a couple weeks ago, and I adore it. 2017 was a great year for the D-28. The changes Martin made created a perfect specs dreadnought.
