A few songs I recently wrote
Here’s a few songs that I recently wrote. I’m just getting back into writing, and I was never that good. That said, I’m making some progress I think, and will make more if I can get some honest feedback from folks that don’t know me.
Thanks in advance for any and all feedback! Easy Lessons burned in Candle Light

Very well done. Good songs, unique style, moody vibe, well played and very well sung.

Thanks Mike. I think two of the songs represent a change for more..I am trying to conform a little. I normally don't include hooks in my songs. Not intentionally, but Im just now figuring out how to make pieces fit together somewhat..

I just listened to the first one.Movingly good!I guess the picture on youtube helped to make the lyrics even more poignant...but regardless a fine song - perfectly sung.
Will listen to others later. |

Hi Michael,
Like Flatbaroque, I only had time to listen to the first one, I will listen to the others later, but that was powerful! Well done! And you have a terrific voice for this kind of song! Very emotional! - Glenn

Great stuff! I gave them all a listen. I think the first two are strongest, very emotive. If you were to collect them on a CD and keep them as parts of an album, I think you would need to intersperse them with some more up tempo material. Nevertheless, some lovely songs there. Hats off to you!

Quote:
Hooks IMHO are great. They come in many ways. They can be some transition chords or a hole in the rhythm playing with the vocal taking over the melody. Perhaps a comfortable melodic repetition? Hooks spark a listener and invest more rewards for a deeper listening experience. Nice ode to someone or reflection of the final curtain. |

Thanks everyone.
Richard, I am definitely trying to write some more upbeat songs. I gravitate towards the melancholy, but you are right. People need to hear some more upbeat stuff in between the sad stuff.. working on it.. also working on my hook writing skills. I am actually struggling with a hook that I wrote for a friend of mine that wanted me to turn her poem into song..the hook is great..the song is great..the transition to the hook..not so great..I will share that another time though and see if I can get feedback..

Michael, I really like the mood you set for each one. Very creative. Your voice works extremely well for this kind of music.
If I have one suggestion, it would be to enunciate just a wee bit more clearly. Some of the lyrics were difficult to understand from my perspective. Above all, keep writing and post more. Roger |

Beautiful work, Michael.
I especially loved the first song. It is stated so simply yet has so much power. As others have noted, you have a very authentic voice which carries the emotion of the song as well as expressing the truth of the lyrics. Best, Jayne |

I have trouble understanding the words, but I do have some hearing loss. I think you have definite musical talent and creativity. I liked some of the overall sound I was hearing. Lyric writing takes years of study, development and tons of writing. Just keep going. But don't try to do it on your own. Study songs that have worked in the lexicon of music and also study outside material as much as you can. Good songwriting is not easy. Furthermore, you might find someone to collaborate with if that interests you. Good luck!
