Default 000-18 GE w/ 1 3/4" nut for same body size w/ 1 11/16" nut

Just throwing this out on the odd chance someone is in the reverse pickle.

I have an '07 Martin Golden Era 000-18. I find that if I play it for a long time, I get a numb thumb do the combination of the wider nut and neck profile.

However, it is the best sounding guitar I own...

Curious if anyone has basically the exact same sort of level of, and sort of guitar (000 size, adi top, mahogany back/sides) with a narrower nut that might be looking for a wider nut? Or maybe just more of a U or C style profile would be enough? I don't know.

Mine has been played a ton, but is not especially beat up - only has one true ding to speak of, but some hazing in the area where your arm goes (would certainly buff out with some work) and various little bits of honest play wear. I definitely don't need any showpieces coming back my way. Not interested in anything too blingy or modern... classic styles.

I don't care as much about scale length - I would entertain both 24.9" and 25.4" scales.

EDIT: Forgot to put a value, apologies. Seems like prices are pretty up there for used ones on Reverb, so hard to price. I'll throw out value at $2600.

I know... it sorta scares me. I'd have to be pretty convinced of what I was getting into if I did, as the sound is just incredible.

Red face

I've been thinking about this off and on today, and I can't think of a guitar that meets your criteria.

Ive owned three Martin Golden Era's...000-18GE 12 fret, 000-18GE 14 fret, and an OM-18GE... and they all had 1 3/4 nut.

To my knowledge, you can easily find an 000-18 with a 1 11/16 nut, but not with an Adirondack top and GE bracing.

Ill be very curious how this turns out for you.
I hope for your sake that Im overlooking something.

Yeah, I'm not sure the GE bracing is a 'must have'.

Surely there is some sort of Collings OM w/ a 1 11/16 or so nut? Dunno.

Maybe this has to be a custom order from Martin?

The OM 1 specs I read show:

--1 3/4 nut, not 1 11/16.
--Sitka top, not Adirondack.

Letting go of GE bracing will help in your search,
but letting go of Adirondack will REALLY help.

Finding an OM or 000 with 1 11/16 nut and Sitka Spruce top should be much easier.

Not that I'm throwing rocks at Sitka, I have personally often preferred it to Adirondack.
But this isnt about me, its about helping you find what works for you.

Again, I'm looking forward to hearing those more knowledgeable directing here.

I am looking here... looks like the 1 3/4 is under custom options instead of standard. I know you can get them with Adi tops...

http://www.collingsguitars.com/acoustic-guitars/om1/

But you raise a good point on my perhaps being too specific. I don't hate Sitka either. Really, if anyone has something that they think would fit any/all of the bill with a slightly narrower nut than 1 3/4", I'm all ears.

Yes, on a Collings OM the 1 11/16" is standard and the 1 3/4" is an option. Many dealers now order 1 3/4" but, the smaller 1 11/16" can definitely be found.

LookerBob,

If you're trying to trade your 000-18, you'll need to post a trade value.

Are you stilling looking for a 000-18GE with a 1 11/16" nut?

I had the same problem when I owned a regular 000-18GE, so I had one custom made with a low profile neck and a 1 11/16" nut. I still have the build sheet. Those 2 changes were the only changes made to the original 000-18 Golden Era specs. The custom shop wouldn't include the inside label due to the fact that guitar was modified.

The guitar was built in 2013 and is in mint condition. There is a K & K pure mini pickup installed. I only play in my home for pure enjoyment and I tend to play mostly electric.

When I was living in Pa, close to the Martin Guitar Factory, I was invited to a VIP tour with a meet and greet with Chris Martin. I brought this guitar along and Chris signed the inside. I have a picture of him signing the guitar.

I would consider selling due to the fact it's seldom being played and I have another Martin.

$2700 shipped.

Let me know if your interested.

A 2007 000-18GE is only the second year that Martin originally produced the 000-18GE. The original run of just a few years were some of the best that Martin ever made IMHO. When they went out of regular production, the demand still remained and folks like Jon at MFG wisely began ordering them as custom models to meet the demand for this GE model. Those are the ones that are still available new to this day.

An early 000-18GE like this one has a fully seasoned and open Adi top and I have never played a bad one. Many are quite spectacular and very reasonably priced as used instruments go.

Maybe Jon or one of the other AGF sponsors can have a custom model with the neck change made for you?

This one certainly sounds incredible... which is why I've been so hesitant to let it go.

This is mine... K&K into a tonedexter.
