Here's a link to a bunch of the Japanese ones. Of course, my Japanese language skills are poor.

That's great! I had that link at one time (I remember the Red Rabel and Black Rabel stuff - classic!), but great to have it again, thanks. Right, I've been on to that web page and had a look around at the various brochure links. I list here the Yamaha ones with dates and basic descriptions:

Default Fg351sb

That's my guitar, but I can't find the brochures online anymore. You can see some info at http://www.yamaha.com/apps/guitararc...itarchive2.asp

No internal mic, just acoustic. It is a very beautiful guitar, and plays well. I liked it enough to buy it, and since I have had it haven't played it a lot, because I have a lot of guitars.

It fits well with the Fg350W, FG300, and is one of the harder to find models. I've seen them sell for $800+.

There is quite a bit of difference between the two - the FG300 and the FG360. I own both. The 300 has a superior construction. It feels better, it looks better. It weighs about 0.35 lbs lighter. The neck is thinner than the FG360, which has the standard rather chunky shape.
All in all, I would say the FG300 is the most aesthetically pleasing guitar I own - I own 16 Yamahas. In those 16 are a few which were double the price of the FG300 and more. But the FG300 is very lovely just to hold.
As for sound quality, the 300 and 360 sound similar (although the adjustable bridge of the 300 produces a different tone).
About the FG300's adjustable bridge, I have misgivings about it. I think it worsens the tone. It aggravates me, funnily enough, because the guitar has all these laudable qualities only to be cheapened by the adjustable bridge. I am starting to give serious thought to having the bridge replaced with a standard fixed bridge.
I just wish Yamaha had made another model - God knows they brought out about a 1000! - another model with the same construction as the FG300, but omitting the adjustable bridge. For the 300 is the sweetest guitar to hold, to look down and see the beautiful headstock, the beautiful sharp edged tuners. Why oh why didn't they issue a model like that?? Everything is sleek, even the lightness.
The FG360 is dissimilar in many ways to be likened to the FG300.

When I bought my first decent brand new guitar in 1969 (FG180), what I really wanted was the 300. Sadly a 16 year-old's pocket money didn't stretch that far, and in fact I never got to play one. I wonder how a 300 would compare to today's solid top and scalloped braced FG models.
