John is on fire! WOW, I cannot believe this guitar will be mine. How am I supposed to play something commensurate with that beauty...

I would say play with feeling. Match the beauty. You can do it!

Love the dots John. Awesome is the word that jumps to mind!

Dennis, thank you for that lovely encouraging sentiment. I try to play with feeling whenever I pick up a guitar. Having started late (and realizing that life is short) I have a sense that I am making up for lost time.

I love it, bro! You keep raising the bar...and making it look easy to boot.
Sheesh...

Thanks brother. I regret that it looked easy.
My greatest concern was heating things up hot enough to melt the solder and not break the glue bond holding things together and not damaging the turquoise which i was told does not like heat.

Talking Purple Heart has my heart!

Wow, that is looking so amazing & have not seen the finale yet.

That back strip!!! Purple heart has been on my brain. I tend to feel all the woods inc binding & back strips lend a nuance or color as you might say in a wash of overtone...just something a bit more.

I am super happy with what John has come up with, for the backstrip. Here are a couple photos, slightly askew because the back is not yet really assembled. He used purple heart, cocobolo, another rosewood (which auto-correct mangled), and spalted maple. I like the cameo because it suggests a mountain profile. John and I live on mountains that kind of resemble each other, and I love mountains the way I love trees and guitars.

So first I cut some silver strips from a silver plate

Since the cutting process curled the silver strip in two directions, I beat it flat

Then clamped the strip and filed the edge flat

In this pic you can see the turquoise diamond glue down to a piece of padouk and one strip of silver glued to the turquoise

The edge of the silver is filed flush with the connecting edges of turquoise

The next strip of silver is soldered using silver solder (what else) to the first strip

The steps are repeated around the turquoise diamond

The entire ensemble is filed smooth

After buffing the silver shines like a mirror edge to the turquoise. Next step is to make 9 or 10 more and then inlay into fretboard
