Default JS Bach BWV 996 Courante

Hi,

Here is my latest JS Bach video.
This piece has some truly prickly parts to play on the guitar. I probably play the opening ornament different than most, p, a, m, i, i, p, i, pm, releasing the LH index on the end pinch. I found this to work very consistently for me.

Hope you like it,

Thanks,

Chris

Wow. That's fantastic!

Tremendous job! I grew up listening to Baltazar Benitez' recording of this on vinyl.

I think your version is at least as good... Probably better. Seriously, you are a major talent to be able to play that so flawlessly.

If I ran the world, young women would be thronging after you by the millions, while bubble gum boy bands would be playing restaurants, coffee houses, and weddings...

Thanks Jason

I like the sound of your world.
Perhaps in some parallel universe.

Well, I don't have the prior exposure to this piece and hardly much exposure to classical guitar. I've become interested in your playing. First hearing it, I did not like this, but I did listen through it about 5 times, and by the end, I caught on to what the song was trying to do, and began to like it. So, it progressed from disturbing to haunting. (My wife said it was pretty.)

The playing was great--my comments are really about the composition.

Keep 'em coming!

Chris, do you play the entire Suite BWV 996?

If you can play the rest of the Suite as well as you play the Courante, I'd like to buy a copy of your CD.

Are you still in school or are you teaching somewhere?

Or both?!

ps. Göran Söllscher's version:

Some people criticize Göran Söllscher for being too clinical, while Baltazar Benitez is more fiery, but perhaps not quite as technically flawless.

Chris, I think your Courante maintains the technical standard of Söllscher, yet retains the passion that Benitez is known for...

Seriously, I'm very impressed with your playing.

Chris, outstanding playing as usual.
It's one thing to "get" this great music, but quite another to be able to express it so well like you do.
Great stuff, and yeah, keep them coming!
(It's inspiring!)

Thank you. Funny thing is my wife is not all that fond of this one either? She prefers the happy, upbeat Bach. Interesting the different ways it is perceived.

Thanks again Jason. As for now the courante is the only movement I play in this suite. So many Bach pieces to learn.
I've been teaching guitar for 25 years now, time flies...
Thanks so much for the kind words.

Andre, your kind and positive comments are a great inspiration to me.
Thank you for that.
