Default Back bracing and back shots of the 42

Here's the radius shot of the back. Per says the radius will be even greater after he shapes the braces.

And the two back shots.

Hope you like the update as much as I did.

Yeah, it is the polar opposite of the two I have from Martin. Unusual to say the least. Here are the two Martin MRW.

I am literally addicted to the look of the 12 fret D21's back. My favorite look for Madi.

Well, it's definitely slab sawn…but I like it too.

I asked Per to see if there was any figured hog blanks for the neck for the 42 and he came up with this. It has a little figure in it, and I have seen the twin made from the same blank and like it.

Hopefully, Per is working on the 45 back now.

Default Some 45 bracing and back pics.

Low back brace stock with radius.

Tall and narrow #1-2 brace and low and wide #3-4.

Upper back brace. Love the figure on the top. This Alpine spruce bracing is from old stock that Per was fortunate enough to acquire from a Violin maker's Estate. He thinks it's about 50-60 years old.

Laying out the back strip.

Laying out the back braces.

Placed in the deck after applying HHG.

Glue dried with back radius inherent.

And the money shot. Per will let the glue set up and harden before shaping the braces.

Thanks for the update Per! Looking forward to the next one as always.

Default A couple more pics.

Per wiped some Mineral spirits on the backs to show the color in the wood. These backs were stored for a long time and had oxidized. They look much better with some color.

First the 42 back.

And the 45.

Thanks for looking.

Nice! Keep Em coming.

Edit: without discounting any other builder on the custom shop, as another with a concurrent Marklund build, I challenge anyone to find cleaner and more precise work than Per. It's looking like he's applied the hide glue with an electron microscope and shaped the braces with a laser. Marklund the Machine!

Marklund the machine. I like that

I got some more of that nice quartered MRW incoming. Got the sides Yesterday but the postal service messed something up so I won't get the rest until Monday or Tuesday.

Default Final shaping of the back braces

First the 42.

The 45

On another note, Per has decided to use solid abalone strips vs. Ablam for the pearl trim on the 42 and 45. I look forward to seeing the rosettes and the tops soon.

Thanks Per.

Default D-45S rosette

Here is Per's career first 45 style rosette. If this one is any indication, many more should follow. Here it is before final scraping.

And after. This is all solid pearl strip construction, like the old Pre-war Martins had, and presently, only the new Martin D-45A have.

Here are some of the Green Abalone strips.

Looking forward to seeing the top bracing pics next on this one.

Nice work Per!

Default 45S Top bracing

Here's the 45S top bracing pictures. All braces and bridge plate are tucked under the x brace like the Authentic line.

Thanks Per!

Next should be the 42 rosette.
