Keep us updated. Oh - think again about your recording set up - you do not want to put your mixing desk (and monitors) in a corner.

Thanks Mike. I may be able to move it a little farther out of the corner then. How far from the corner does it have to be?

For mixing, you ideally want a very symmetrical surrounding - equidistance from side walls is best. Bass traps in corners, and points of first reflection, ceiling cloud.
If putting the mixing desk in the center of the 16' wall is not possible, consider putting it away from the corner on the long wall - if you've got 12' of that wall dedicated to your music area, then centered on the 6' mark, with traps on the near wall, leaving the open space on the other side to work to disperse the sound waves.

Potentially stupid question from me: all that orangey-red stuff on the ground. Is that the colour of the soil in Texas? If so, I know where the title of EmmyLou Harris's Red Dirt Girl came from.

In some areas yes. In this pic it's fill deposits for levelling.

I take it you've never visited northern Georgia?

Tape and bed almost done. Trim will go up tomorrow. I will be painting this weekend then flooring and final electric trim out next week. Not too much longer now!

Just a little left on the paint (touchup) so that should be finished today. Electrical will be here this week to finish up then AC install on Friday. That'll leave the floor and baseboards for next week. Then I'm ready to start with bass traps and other sound treatment.

You don't have a lot of electric outlets showing there. Up here the code is one every 4 ft on finished walls. Since this is a 'man cave', I'd have extras for things like Beer lights, beer fridges, plus music equipment - amps, etc.

In my studio, I found that a lot of AC outlets were really helpful. Eventually, I bought rack mounted power units that had built-in surge protectors for most of the gear.

Still, when you roll an electric guitar amp up and you can't find a convenient outlet to plug it into, it's irritating. You may also need outlets for cameras if you ever do any video recording.

It's a moderate amount. I have I think 16 or so in the recording area.

Good - only 3 (plus that high opening) in the picture.

Each opening will have four plugs. Two are high because I plan to put a work desk in that area, and two are low. I'm going to have to rethink things a little due to what you told me earlier, but that was the original plan anyway. The other opening is the data cable for wifi.

When i got done making sure I'd done all possible to never ever have to run an extension cord, the result was that I had to buy 29 outlet cover plates for my tiny little 900 square foot home. (+ 12 switch cover plates.)
