I think many of the Cramps' songs are spoofs.

Wow, that was terrible. Maybe 30 or so years ago I might have enjoyed that, but I couldn't get past the first minute mark. Too harsh on the old ears.

Speaking of truly manic renditions, how about the Flying Lizards’ cover of “Money?"

I laughed at this but it's not by The John Butler Trio, it's by a guy named John R. Butler ..... although I'm pretty sure Aussie guitarist John Butler would laugh at the song and the mix-up too.

A friend of mine in MA, who was also one of the founders of a local band, played Martin Mull's "Normal" at just about every solo gig he did. For the line about "It's so hard to live in this town when you're strange," he'd substitute "Amesbury" for "this town." Bob's act was the only place I've ever heard the song besides videos like this:

The local bar where Bob often performed also hosted a hoot night on Wednesdays, and one night a couple of guys and a girl singer did Gilda Radner's "Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals." I was not particularly surprised to find out that Tammi the bartender knew all the lyrics to it, and she and I were singing it loudly, and laughing.

I think it got lost decades ago, but I once had a book called "The Bawdy and the Naughty," which as I recall had chords for a number of risqué songs. The one I was most interested in learning was "Humoresque," with its lyrics about "passengers will please refrain." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humore..._refrain....22
(Yes, Steve Goodman used the line to good effect in "City of New Orleans," but much differently.)

"Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?
If your mother says don't do it, do you swallow it in spite?
Can you catch it on your tonsils and heave it left and right?
Does you chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?"

My daughter enjoys singing Tom Leherer's Poisoning Pigeons in the Park (with me accompanying on guitar) - despite the fact that we quite like pigeons, sparrows, and squirrels. She's pretty hilarious.

Good one zabdart. Here's another I'm sure you'll remember:

I keep hearing you're concerned about my happiness.
All that thought you're giving me is conscience, I guess.
If I were walking in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none.
While you and your friends are worrying 'bout me, I'm having lots of fun.

Chorus
"Countin flowers on the wall
that don't bother me at all
playin solitaire til dawn
with a deck of 51
smokin cigarettes and watchin Captain Kangaroo
now don't tell me Ive nothin to do
now don't tell me Ive nothin to do

Verse
Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town.
As long as I can dream, it's hard to slow this swinger down.
So please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doing fine.
You can always find me here, having quite a time.

Repeat Chorus

Verse
It's good to see you I must go
I know I look a fright
and anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light
and my shoes they are not used to this hard concrete
so I'll go back to my room and make my day complete

Repeat Chorus

Flowers on the Wall[ Statler Brothers

Don't know why but it always gave me a chuckle.
