Default Anyone here do custom inlay work?

I've found some basic sets of inlay for a couple of guitar projects, and i'm wondering if I could send the inlay with the wood to someone and have them set the inlay for me.

Anyone here do this? Know anyone who would?

Most luthiers do custom inlay work, have you checked your local area first?

I got a list of custom inlay workers online, and the first one I contacted is a place that does everything by cnc. And he wasn't at all interested in inlaying anything I got from somewhere else.
So rather than contacting one place after another, I thought I might check here, since there is a lot more knowledge here than i'm likely to happen across with various internet searches.

But you're right though, there are a few very notable luthiers in my area, and it wouldn't hurt to give them a call during business hours.
Especially considering i'd be able to drop the stuff off right at their shop in person.

When someone does all there work vee cnc, then its to hard for them to go back to old school chisel and dremels.

It is far quicker to cnc cut a pearl and use that vector file created to then reverse cut the pocket it goes into.

Cnc is good but has some dis-advantages as well.

So they're cutting the inlay as well as the pocket right off of the cnc? That would make sense to do it that way. Certainly could get the inlay to fit a lot more perfectly.
And it would also help to explain why he had no interest in doing it with pre-cut inlay.

I like the evolution fretboard. I've even mentioned recently that I would like to see one like that, but in a slightly different direction.
I'd want the pic furthest to the right to be all the way to the left like the normal way these are done.
And then the guitarist would be standing fully upright while holding the guitar as the fully evolved man.

Actually I just noticed you cannot see the full fretboard on that one, it actually has man evolve from a single cell and becomes monkey, then Cro Magnon man, then modern man, then picks up a guitar and starts to de-evolve.

They are all my own designs.

I might consider doing some inlay work. I'm just west of Baltimore, probably a little too far away.

PM me if you're interested.
