Default Building my own Martin 000 style guitar

I am 50 on September the 13th, I told Johanna I just wanted a quiet meal with Her and our Children, My 40th was a big do and Johanna was actually booked by me to play at that party, life is somewhat quieter these days.

Anyway I have for some time talked of going on the Sanden Guitars building course where you build your own Acoustic Guitar from Scratch and Johanna has paid for me to attend. The August Class was full when I rang up and Michael has kindly arranged an extra course for me and another guy which starts on 19th July thru to 1st August. I am beyond excited.

I am going to build the Martin triple o style guitar and install a Ghost Steel string midi system for the pick up and also a tronical auto tune for altered tunings.

I am feeling like a 17 year old with 50 knocking on the door Happy days!

Ah what an absolutely awesome experience.

I have been building my own OM over the last year and a half on a course offered here in South Africa by Casimi Guitars.
I only get to go into the workshop on saturdays,so it has taken a very long time.
Still, it is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done.

Enjoy your course, I hope it is as excellent as mine has been.

You will be incredibly blessed! I finished my first OM build in a class setting with four other guys and it was a very memorable experience. I also was only able to commit to once a week on Saturdays and it took about 13 months ( I'm still not done in my opinion) but what a great feeling of accomplishment you get.

Good luck with your build!

Default ( Days in and Lacquer goes on!) Firebrigade needed for Flame Maple Binding.

I am really pleased with progress this is from at second coat of Lacquer stage there was a third layer applied yesterday evening and we will sand the bodies and neck and apply 3 more coats today. The Guitars just lit up when the lacquer went on the Flame rock maple we have in the bindings are alive, the flames burn so bright , I almost got my pipe and slippers.

Had another great day, We have now applied the first 3 coats of lacquer to the body and Neck and will sand down in the morning and apply 3 more layers which are sanded before the last finish layer is applied then Wednesday we make and fit our bridges.

Mine is the one on the left

My Neck is the one underneath.

yesterday evening evening was spent as Michaels guest at Dinner in
Simershamn. where Homesick mac had a gig at a local restaurant on the Marina front. It was a lovely evening on 1930's blues and swing . Mac plays demos at Guitar Shows for Michael and plays Sanden Guitars.

Looking awesome Roger.
I can't wait to see a close up of that maple binding you're talking about.
What other specs have you gone with? top and back(looks like maybe Indian rosewood?
Is the back strip also maple? It actually looks like it may be herringbone, by which I mean "from this distance, it looks a little grey".

I'm sure you've got the worst GAS ever right about now. :P

The Binding and back strip and rossete are all maple the rosette is a Gurian Guitars dyed maple fibre rope pattern . Gurian are based in Seattle and Gurians guitars inspired Michael to become a Luthier.

More pics to come I am just installing a Graphtech preamp and 13 pin divided output for single string processing so will take photos of the completely finished Guitar. Yes Mary Gas is the word, It was one and I have it, gets a mention in the broidge of this tribute to Michael Sanden I recorded.
