Default NGD: Eastman E20ss

Hey friends,

I just bought this E20ss from Ted at LA Guitar, and i am really happy with it. The fit and finish is immaculate, and it is the first non-Gibson I can say the following about... they got the burst right! And although this guitar came with a pick guard, it is weak, and I intend to put a J45 style on her from GuitarGal.

The neck is an 11/16 very round C, and it is very comfortable for a cowboy chord thumb wrap singer like me. And while this guitar has an adi top over rosewood back and sides, it is very warm and mellow. I was expecting bright, and this is a nice surprise. I was hoping it would fall between my J45 and my D35 sonically, and it does just that; it's a warm chording guitar with a little less bass than the D35.

Everyone says Adi takes a while to break in, so I don't know how this sound will mature. If any of you have owned one for a while, did you notice a tonal change over time?

Your always on a roll Sal
I've been looking at these also on Teds web site.
Did you buy it with a case, or did he ship it in a box
That's a long 3,000 mile ride
Hope to hear it soon

Congrats Sal on your E20SS. They did do a great job on your burst. Have seen some not as perfect as yours. Have had mine for about 3 months now and find it to be close to the AJ that it replaced but with a more suitable neck for my aging hands. It sounds so good now I don't know if I want it to ever open up.

Sal, congrats on your new Eastman! I own two; an ET5-SS 2011 model and an E10-SS 2013 model, both with Adirondack tops. The ET5-SS opened up dramatically over the course of about a half an hour one evening while I was playing it, at about the two year old mark. It pretty much developed all its nuance tonewise in that time. Since then I've only noticed that it responds a tad quicker and has gotten louder. My E10-SS is a 2013 model and sounded great from the moment I got it. I haven't noticed any dramatic changes to the tone with it but it too is beginning to get louder with a faster response. I'm not a rosewood guy but I am a fan of short scale guitars and I've become a big fan of Adirondack that Eastman made affordable to me. Play on and enjoy.

Wait a minute...that looks familiar. Congrats, Sal! If you like yours as much as I like mine, you're not going to want to put it down.

Maybe you can use it to record a new addition to your site. I'll listen.

Thanks everyone! I really like this guitar...

I just did a comparison of three 2015 guitars: Martin D35, Gibson J45, and the Eastman E20ss; You can kind of hear the difference between the three guitars. I find the Eastman is between the D35 and the J45, perhaps closer to the Martin:

Excellent! For the record I noticed a change in the ADI top on my Eastman about 7 months into owning it. It was built in 2014 if that matters.

A little less harsh as it mellowed out a bit.

Thanks again fellas. I am going to try to give it a lot of play. Shouldn't be hard as its a very comfortable guitar. I feel like with these three guitars I really can keep myself occupied experimenting with strings, and style. I am impressed with this Eastman!
