First Gloss Coat
Hear are some update pictures of the lullaby guitar with it's first gloss coat on!
I enjoy seeing how much the figure and grain comes out in Koa and rosewood. Another week or so and I'll start setting this one up! As a side note, on the first picture you can see the cut out in the top under where the fret board will be. Starting a few guitars ago I have begun using an insert that goes from the neck out under the fret board extension. This adds a lot of strength to the neck/body connection adding quite a bit of stability there and it also allows me to make necks that are entirely bolt on.

Thanks Nemoman,
Mad Rose is a beautiful looking, sounding, and a pleasure to work with. It goes great with an old Redwood top too! The finish will be done soon so I'll get to hear what it has to say!

More Wood!
In my efforts to upgrade my wood locker and broaden my selection of more sustainable domestic woods here two new flamed Myrtle sets. Nice ring and weight. They will be glorious under finish!

Sonic Values of laminated neck
Beautiful Builds!
Can you describe what you think are the Sonic Values of a laminated neck? obviously there is probably a greater stiffness and reliability in a laminated neck. But I would also assume that the lamination allows you to use other woods that normally might not work due to their tone or stability character by combining with other woods. |

So my stated purposes for using laminates are, as you say, the obvious ones being stiffness and reliability. I am a fan of alternative woods for necks but, I wouldn't use a neck wood that couldn't stand on it's own or needed to depend on what I feel is a non existent Sonic Value aid. Thanks for commenting!

Thank You
Always intrigued by all of the possibilities with woods and combinations there of. If I had large funds...I would not buy sports cars, fancy houses...but spend all of the money on different wood combos, shapes and bracing. I like experimenting in this nature on acoustics...as much as playing them...actually maybe more. Different wood combos bring out different tones which allow me to express different song potentials. So I am very appreciative of all of you great luthiers and the knowledge you share. Fun stuff!
Anyway thank so much for the great explanation. Regardless of the fact that the laminated necks do not act sonically different...and are only used for stability....they also sure look lovely as well. |

Finish is on
The finish is on this Redwood and Mad Rose parlor. I'm thinking chocolate and caramel!
Thanks for viewing! Mark
