Default Charis Acoustic Build Thread - Walnut/Cedar S/N 410

The next in our current build set is a beautiful piece of flamed Claro Walnut that will get a cedar top. This Walnut is gorgeous under finish.

Looks nice.

Cedar and Walnut IMO is one of the best combinations. Unspectacular but effective!

Bill,

Maybe a dumb question but does Serial# 410 mean that you've built 409 guitars previous to this one? Also, how long have you been building? Inquiring minds want to know!

The first was a classical.....and from the website:

So in 1996, while searching for a new guitar to satisfy his desire for a high quality fingerstyle instrument, those who knew of Bill's talent and ability suggested that he build his own. After stringing up his first instrument and hearing the clarity and beauty of its music, he decided luthierie must become a full time pursuit. Charis Acoustic was born!

Thanks for that. Four hundred instruments in less than 20 years of building is quite a feat. Do you know how many, if any, employees he has working with him? Or does Mr. Wise work alone?

I believe Bill works alone, with some occasional help from Rebecca his daughter perhaps! (Just my guess, may be wrong).

It'll be exciting to see these three builds (408/409/410) come together concurrently

He does, however, seem to have some fairly high-tech equipment.

but then, he's an engineer turned guitar builder.

Which turns out some of the most precision musical instruments you'll ever put your hands on!

Bill has worked solo for nearly the entire time he's been building, with occasional help from his wife/kids. I (Rebecca - his daughter) have recently started officially working for him, though I've spent many days/hours here before helping out with inlays. We're hoping to be able to hire in some more help in the not-too-distant future!

Also, this is my official hello! I'll be helping to man the forum and facebook, and I look forward to speaking to all of you!

-Rebecca

Hi Rebecca! I think it is fantastic that you've joined your dad in his building endeavors. Welcome to the AGF, and although I am not an owner, I am a fan. Hope to own one some day!

She is well on her way! The front is attached, fingerboard is fretted, and the back is being bound. I just love how soft and simply elegant this guitar is looking.

The binding is on, bevel is done, and this guitar is almost ready to start finishing!

Filled, cured, and sealed - the grain of the walnut is really starting to pop! This guitar is in it's final phases before getting ready to be shipped out. Keep an eye out for finished photos soon!
-Rebecca

Looking silky smooth!

The walnut head plate is looking great, too!
