Default Gibson DOBRO OAI F60 advice

I am currently considering a:
Gibson DOBRO OAI F60
Serial # D2012960

Gibson says this about it
Year - 2002
Made in Nashville USA
Series Round-neck
.........
It has 2 F holes

I am trying to reconcile the value of this instrument but I am having issues pinpointing it in a book.

A 15th ed of a common acoustic guitars value guide says the F60 round-neck inst. high value is $600.00 in excellent condition but they also note that it was discontinued in 2000 hence my dilemma.

It is my understanding that Gibson bought the Dobro name OAI and OMI in 93 94
and they have had some internal transitional name change periods and perhaps this inst. is falling into one of those areas?

The asking price for this inst is $699.00

I typically do not pay more for a guitar than I could resell it for.
I will try to post pictures in a follow up post.

I have never played a resonator so I am looking for something low-end to start with and if I don't gel with it I would simply sell or trade it for something else.

When I first saw this I was ready to jump on it an 02 USA made
dobro for 700?

The more I research the more wary I become. Please help me from doing something Stooopid... dont let me buy a dog, and help me place a realistic value on this,

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the year issue but the gibson dobro's are not known for their excellence. For that money you could buy a Paul Beard signature edition GoldTone used, and they are known for their excellence.

I have a Gibson made dobro- Mod 27 Deluxe - given to me by a dying friend.

The cone was appaling and the intonation was more than 1/4" out. I had to have the seating re-routed out, and Beard cone and Beard Spider made to resolve the wel known Gibson intonation issues.

I now live my repaired and corrected Dobro, but I'd go for a National or a Beard.
