Howard,
You are correct about one of my real concerns. It's how far away my hand is from my body. So my assumption is that a 12 fret is shorter overall even if the scale is normal long scale, say 25.5. So effectively, a short scale and a 12 fret both would move my hand closer to my body. Am I missing something? However, that's only one element of proper neck profile & fit, albeit an important one. But I'm also wondering about shape and thickness. Mike
