Thanks folks - you are all very kind. I have lots of support through my friends here, those from all phases of my life on Facebook and local friends and clients.

I've also made some good friends at the nursing home, both nurses/caregivers and residents. When this is behind us, I'll be going out and playing for them all.

Very sad for your loss. Not everyone has had the privilege of a father such as yours was. You were blessed, truly. We are never prepared.:+{

Really sorry for your loss Fitness.

You're a man and a half for doing what you did to care for him.

It's interesting you say that - at 55 I thought I was a "man", but through this process I realized I'd just been an old child-like person who liked to have fun most of the time. Other than losing my brother suddenly and a couple bouts with breast cancer with my Mom (that were caught early) we'd had it pretty darn good.

I believe I've finally graduated.

Thanks for the kind comment.

So sorry for. Your loss, I was also blessed with great parents. My Dad was a good man that passed away 26 years ago, and yet I still remember him always as a good father. God Bless

You and your parents were fortunate to have all that time together. Your dad sounds like an amazing man who proudly and happily raised an amazing son. Best wishes to you and your mom getting through a this sad time.

Here is a quote that was on a card I received from the hospice team that cared for my Dad:

"Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because dawn has come."

Thanks guys - this thread is really helping me. I'm doing OK - still kind of surreal. As you would imagine the last 24 hours has left me exhausted physically and mentally. Turning in now - thanks for all of your uplifting replies

I am sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Thoughts and prayers to you in this difficult time. My Mom passed on Christmas Eve morning, her favorite day. On the evening before she passed, suffering from the pain of cancer, and tears in her eyes, and while sitting on the bed with her, she told my sister & me that she could not live forever. So while looking at her and holding her, I responded that she will always live forever in our hearts. I trust you will always hold the best moments and experiences with your Dad in your heart.
