Default *SOLD* Martin MC-DSM Flamed Koa/Apline Italian Spruce

2007 Martin MC-DSM guitar with Italian alpine spruce top, flamed Hawaiian koa back and sides, ebony binding, Waverly tuners. Number 50 of a limited run of 100. This guitar has amazing strong, bright trebles and incredibly big, rumbling bass. The Italian alpine spruce is one of the most desired and expensive top woods in the world, known for extraordinary tone and responsiveness. You barely pluck a note and it rings out strong and loud. The Hawaiian koa back and sides give the guitar strong, clear fundamentals similar to Honduran mahogany. This is Martin's 0000 size, slightly larger than an OM or 000, with more bass oomph and overall volume (in this particular guitar, a LOT more). This is a truly extraordinary guitar and it's very hard for me to part with it (I'll spare you the personal story, but am the registered first owner and I never imagined parting with this one). There are three small dimples on the front bass-side upper bout (photo 8) which do not break the finish, and a few smaller nicks here and there but ones you have to look for to see. There's no significant wear on the frets and it plays cleanly all the way up and down. Current setup is very low, suitable for finger style or moderate flat-picking. I believe this guitar was designed for fingerstyle but could be used with a pick (possibly with higher action needed). Originally this guitar listed at $8,000. Includes original Martin-branded top-of-the line Geib-style case (cabernet lining).

Default Dimensions

Hi Luria. The "M" in "MC-DSM" stands for Martin's 0000 body size (don't ask me how they decided on "M"). The specs:
1) lower bout 16"
2) upper bout 11.5"
3) waist 9.75"
4) body depth and end block 4"
5) body length 20"
6) overall length ~41"

Wengr, thanks-- I agree. Because the 0000 has the body depth of an OM (4") and a narrow waist, it doesn't feel bulky despite the 16" lower bout-- but that big lower bout really makes a different in the bass tone. To my ears the bass on this guitar is as big as most dreads.

I agree. I have a couple M size Martins with a another custom on order. I don’t have a Koa one though! By far my favorite body size. Good luck selling this one.
