Wow, looks awesome so far. I don’t think you can go wrong! Just don’t use any klutz for the top, as I’ve not heard good things about it.

Thanks! Good advice, I'll try to avoid the klutz soundboards, I believe they'd produce and unbalanced tone!

Lots going on in the shop today. Bending sides, and making binding and purfling.

Two sides down with two more to go.

The rim on the cocobolo guitar is now joined. I'll join the mahogany in a couple days.

The Lutz and the Engleman tops ready for rosettes, cocobolo rim, and the Mahogany back can all be seen in this end of the day shot of my bench.

Today's a fun day in the shop. I'll see the mahogany side laminations through completion and start getting this perfectly quartered cocobolo back ready for its future life as an active part of a guitar.

The hollow core back for the cocobolo is gluing. All these pieces go into each back. I got this idea from my pal Jeremy Clark. I've been building this way for a coupe years now and really enjoying the results. The backs end up being very evenly stiff in all directions, though built thin enough and light enough so as to be an active contributor to tone and volume of the instrument, and not a pure reflector like many laminated backs.

Rosettes and rims. The rims have got epoxy all over them, but sometimes I like to show the not so pretty stuff.

Very beautiful! The mahogany is so earthy and clear, more familiar and friendly looking. I like it a lot
I wonder what's with the air gaps between sides in the last pic! Never seen something like that!

I agree with your feelings on the mahogany. I've got a fairly good pile of it and I sometimes forget to stop and admire its simple beauty.

The air gaps are the built in liners. I use a technique I got from Jeremy Clark, who got it from Sergei De jonge. The sides are made from three pieces of wood, the outside show piece, a kerfed layer of western red cedar and then the inside laminate. These sides make a very sturdy rim.
