Default Tips for strumming the correct strings?

Does anyone have any tips for strumming the correct strings?
Eg 4 bottom strings with D, 5 strings with A, C etc? I find when I'm playing a song with an up down strumming pattern I end up strumming all strings for every chord and it's become a habit now that I'm trying to break.

Hi, the only thing I can think of is that you try to replace the up/down pattern for a boom-chick style with the boom being the root bass note followed by the chick being the rest of the chord in a down stroke. This way you'll become accustomed to picking the bass note without looking and it'll sound better thsan simple strumming anyway.

Look at some of my videos to get the idea.

Hope this helps,all the best,

Win win on what SM suggests cuz it sounds better, more interesting, more fun, and opens up a whole new world if you pursue it into more flatpicking rhythm technique. You might consider Flatpicking Essentials Vol. 1 offered at Flatpick.com.
