AGF Inspired LTD Rainsong Shorty @ LA Guitar Sales

I'm happy to announce that thanks to a thread started by Lisa (aka itself) we have another limited edition Rainsong in the works based on the hugely popular Shorty. This AGF inspired limited will feature Abalone shark fret markers, Abalone rosette, and Abalone dot bridge pins, which means this will be one very sexy Shorty.

We will make this LTD available in gloss or FT finish with and without electronics, and all will be shipped in a hard shell case. Please email me for the AGF price and availability for this very limited guitar.

Can we get Gotoh tuners with ebony and upgraded nut/bridge?

that would make it look really nice.

Generally when we do a limited run like this we don't make any one off changes.

I've placed a deposit on a LTD shorty, I'm so excited and Ted has been great!
I'm still torn between the FT and SG, mostly concerned with long term durability.
Any advice?

I have played the FT and thought it had a very nice tone and balance.....a little less rich sounding than my CA OX HG but in the ballpark. From other people reviewing the gloss in the rainsong is a bit brighter.

I played the OX and Shorty extensively, and side by side and there is no way the OX sounds more rich, especially the gloss version which always sounded a bit muddy to me compared to the Raw. I'll give you this though, the OX is the closest that CA has come to the Rainsong tone.

I also disagree with the reviews you've been reading about the gloss shorty being brighter. Unlike with CA's gloss vs Raw the tonal difference between the two Rainsong finishes are actually very minor, but if anything I find the FT might be brighter. Perhaps Ted will throw his opinion in the hat.

from what I've heard and read here are the perceived and practical differences:

FT

mellow tone
$200 cheaper
doesn't show fingerprints as easy
A little more durable than a high gloss finish
the rough texture might cause unwanted rubbing sounds
not sure how abalone/shark inlays look on an FT finish

SG

brighter tone
feels smoother when holding against body
displays the graphite weave more

After spending a half hour with a Shorty today, I'm gonna do it. My only decision is... SG or FT? I have to tell you that when I think of Rainsong I think of that deep gloss with abalone accents.

OK, I'm in - gloss no electronics ordered! If I need a pickup later I'll install a K&K, I've had great luck with them on a few acoustic basses.

The waaaaa-iiit-ing is the hardest part...

Ken, all the guitars need to be the same so dots will not be an option. I went through this with my last custom run and although there are some people who have an aversion to sharks (thank you Steven Spielberg) I found that the majority of the people I talked to prefer them on their Rainsongs.

I would also be interested in this Rainsong Shorty. As you know, I tried a CA OX from you a couple of years ago and it wasn't my cup of tea, but I have played the Rainsong OM and it was like night and day in terms of weight and playing comfort for my tastes.
