John has made
Honduran Mahogany neck and end blocks and bent the
East Indian Rosewood (EIR) rims. The depth of the rims is approximately 3-1/2" deep at the neck block and about 4" deep at the end block.
In the two images below you can see the rough carved EIR back placed on top the rims. The edges of the back plate are still thick so you can see just how well quartered the billet was. The back at the recurve near the rims will eventually be taken down to 0.070"-0.080" with steel scrapers.
