On a more serious note, a Mexican strat will do you just fine. They are built to high standards but slightly less attention to detail than the American (fret finishing). The Mexican also has less expensive pickups but they are certainly decent sounding. You save a bundle if you buy new and will lose less on the resale value should you decide to sell.
