The reason folks recommend laminated backs is you can buy a top of the line Yamaha solid top Lam/ back and sides with his budget, among other brands. Said Yamaha is going to be a IMO Much better guitar than a bottom of the line solid guitar. For the budget if seeking solid I would seek out used and still be stretched to find something to beat a Yamaha, Blueridge, Recording King with a set up.
