Default Restringing an Amicus

Hello all...
I am having a heck of a time restringing my Emerald Amicus. I snapped a high "d" string twice trying to get it tuned to its standard (low to high, DGCFAD) tuning. The "d" string that keeps snapping is the shorter of the pair. (the longer one out of the pair tuned up to pitch without breaking)
This is my first time restringing it and I am using two sets of the lightest gauge strings I could find, Daddario EJ15's, which are extra light gauge .010-.047.
Can anyone offer my some advice as to what I might be doing wrong?
Is there a special make of string that Emerald uses for the higher tension on this short scale instrument?
Kinda frustrating to be wasting whole sets of strings because one out of the bunch keeps snapping on me
