Depends what you're after. If you're using it to play rhythm behind a bluegrass band, the AJ would be a better choice because it has rosewood B&S; will have a little more bass at the expense of some clarity. If you're playing with a rock band, a J-45 with mahogany B&S will have more midrange presence and clarity, better for cutting through a mix. If you're just playing by yourself, then it's really personal preference.
To me, the feel of the long or short scale would be the deciding factor. Buy the guitar that feels better in your hands.
