Thanks for the link...I had not seen that one yet.

There are probably several more small field recorders in development. I'm sure they will all vary in features.

Right now in the handheld group I know of the Sony ($1850), Edirol ($400) and Zoom ($300) - well and the Ares M ($1000).

Actually the Ares and Sony have been out for a while, and the Edirol 09 is the second generation of the 01 model. There is bound to be some leap frogging and borrowing of features and idea as developers improve the units too.

And in the end - we the users win...quality generally goes up and prices come down.
