First I want to thank all who responded to my last posting
Some great suggestions for the build as well as for educational material

I know this won't be a perfect set up, for I had to make some compromises. Most due to the space and because of finances, but I am confidient it will be a good set up for recording acoustic guitar and vocals
After some soul searching and photo documentation of the plumbing, electrical and hvac (for which there is very little in this part of the basement), I have opted for the sheet rock and not the dropped ceiling.
So far I put the roxul safe and sound between the joists, constructed a soffit around the hvac (stuffed with the roxul) and Hung the resilient channel (RC-8)
I will also put up a wall for separating the stairs and the room and will hang solid wood doors both upstairs and downstairs.
I do not expect complete silence, but already, with just the roxul in the joists there is less transmission of noise, can not hear the TV from upstairs and the wife says she can not hear my radio any more.
The space is 26x20 with 8 foot ceilings. Once the sheet rock and mud has gone up, and the walls painted I will start on preparing the concrete floor for staining.
Though I have some idea we're to place the sound absorption panels (first reflection points, corners and some cloud coverage) I will do some analysis and adjust were needed. I do not want to remove to much of the live sound so I will start sparingly and add as needed.
I then look forward to building a small but functional desk.
One I get the photo hosting done I will post some before and after picks.
